I dont freelance anymore really, but I typically had a day rate that would begin the conversation if it was over 6+ hours of actual work. I would not go below that, ever and I always held firm. If it was less than 6, I was happy to do hourly (minimum of 3 hours) but the rate was a higher amount per hour than if it was hourly. Just don't undervalue your work and rate and be honest with what you think your effort is worth.
